2011, to me, wasn't a spectacular year for music. I only picked up like 5 or 6 albums and very few blew me away. The Red Hot Chili Peppers new album is a spectacular return for them, it was probably my favorite from the year. I also really liked a lot of the more (pardon the term) 'underground' artists debuting this year like The Weeknd and especially Badbadnotgood (looove their free mixtape). And from the list you have there I'd say Adele hitting it big was great, even if she is massively overplayed on the radio. And Watch the Throne was a pretty cool collaboration (with undoubtably the best album art of the year :P).
